Healing wounds is much easier today than a thousand years ago. Back then, there weren’t many medications and treatments available. The procedures were experimental and unproven, too. But even though more medications and treatments are available today, there is still a complex and dynamic process of replacing missing tissue layers and cellular structures.

As such, it is not that strange that when the intake of amino acids is increased such as through diet or supplementation, it has no major effect on how the skin is quickly repaired due to protein production. While normal skin synthesis of proteins is not directly affected by increased protein or amino acid intake, taking in amino acids in increased amounts can influence the stimulation of the synthesis of proteins for wounds or wounded skin. This is especially true in terms of amino acids that are not produced within the human body which are also referred to as essential amino acids. Evidence suggests that taking increased amounts of these essential amino acids can help in the stimulation of wound repair and the production of collagen. 

The question is, how can these essential amino acids help in jumpstarting the process of collagen production in wounded skin?  Since collagen is made up of less than 10% of amino acids that are essential, there is most probably enough stored within the body itself to start with the protein-building process. Hence, it is really not an issue of availability but rather the ability of essential amino acids to better manage inflammation beyond the initials stages of the healing process and even all throughout the phases of healing. 

Evidence suggests that essential amino acids can reduce the cells contributing to inflammation and activated during the healing process of the injuries. Through the reduction of cells that are inflammatory, the body is able to produce increased fibroblasts which are types of cells that aid the body in the regulation of the inflammatory process. This can lead to the speedier development of collagen fiber networks that are denser and wound repairs that are stronger. 

Ultimately, taking a blend of amino acids that are properly blended and balanced designed specifically for the optimal healing of wounds can aid in faster healing of injuries and wounds and can help in the protection of an immune response that is overactive and even enhances the collagen quality for stronger and faster healing of wounds.

The 4 Stages Of Wound Healing

1. Hemostasis

This is the first stage of healing. Hemostasis begins after you get injured. Your blood vessels constrict and platelets produce the substance that helps to stop bleeding through clotting. Blood flow will restrict by the vascular system, and exposed collagen attracts platelets. After that, blood cells will be trapped in fibrin threads and a clot is formed.

2. Inflammation

Inflammation the second stage of wound healing, inflammation is the response of our body to the trauma caused by the wound, if inflammation occurs you will feel the pain, heat, redness, and swelling. During the inflammation stage, the damaged cells, bacteria, and pathogen will be removed from the wound area. We should not worry if our wound is inflamed because it’s just natural unless it’s prolonged and excessive than normal.

3. Proliferation

During this stage our healthy granulation tissue will process the healing of the wounds though replacing the wound damage tissue, a healthy new network of blood vessels should be constructed to make the granulation tissue can be healthy and will receive enough oxygen and nutrients. Also during this stage will work the damage mesenchymal and change into fibroblasts and your wound will grow stronger during this stage.

4. Maturation

This is the final stage of wound healing it is the period of remodeling your wound, it will take soon after your wound heals, and remodeling or maturation begins after 21 days of the injury. Though this is the final stage of wound healing it is also the complex and fragile process because any failure of this process wound healing will result in chronic wounds.

But did you know Amino acid can accelerate in wound repair? Amino acid is useful and very essential in our body since tissue and muscles are made of amino acid. It can make healing and repairing wounds easy.

3. Zinc

Zinc helps the body to synthesize protein to collagen and collagen will help to develop new tissue which is very important in wound healing.

4. Fats

The cell membrane is developed by fatty acid that’s why eating and drinking good fatty food is good during healing your wound.

5. Vitamin A

Vitamin A is good during healing wounds because Vitamin A is antioxidant. Antioxidants are very helpful in fighting infections and it is also a big help in controlling the inflammatory response. But too much taking vitamin C can be toxic, thus it should be monitored.

6. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is antioxidant which is good in increasing the strength of the wound as it heals.

  1. Always wash your hands before touching your wound because dirty hands can infect your wound.
  2. Keep the wound cover with clean dressing tell no fluid is present in the wound, overexposure of wound can be prone to bacterial infections.
  3. Keep your wound away from your pet, if you have wounds keep it away from your pet because it can be worse especially if your pet will lick, it’s better to prevent future infection than to suffer from it.
  4. Avoid scratching your wound. scratching your wound can make another wound and it can damage your new tissue that being built by nutrients.
